DJ NEWS | OCTOBER 2026
Technics has unveiled the SL-1210MKX, a new professional direct-drive turntable designed with working DJs and sound engineers. Its biggest upgrades tackle vibration in bass-heavy clubs and bring ±50% ultra-pitch to the SL-1200 family.
Technics Listened — The Heavyweight Returns
The original SL-1200 earned a formidable reputation in DJ booths for its dependable, tank-like construction. Some DJs criticised the lighter MK7 for its susceptibility to vibration and feedback in demanding club setups.
The MKX is Technics’ response, engineered specifically for stages, venues and powerful sound systems.
At 11.9 kg, the SL-1210MKX is 2.4 kg heavier than the MK7, with additional internal weight designed to help suppress vibration. That’s a significant change for professional installations where deep bass can cause acoustic feedback.
Improved Vibration Isolation
Technics has also redesigned the feet using composite rubber, a flatter profile and an internal metal spring.
The aim is improved vibration absorption while retaining the familiar controlled feel of a Technics deck.
Its real-world performance will become clearer as DJs begin installing and testing the new model.
Ultra-Pitch for the Scratch Community
And Technics hasn’t forgotten the scratch community — the DJs who kept the Technics legacy alive through decades of hip-hop, turntablism and DJ battles.
The SL-1210MKX offers ±4%, ±8%, ±16% and ±50% pitch ranges.
The new ±50% ultra-pitch setting opens up creative possibilities for scratch and battle DJs, while ±4% offers finer adjustment for traditional beatmatching.
Technics has also replaced the MK7’s ×2 switch with a dedicated pitch-range selector.
More Than Just a New Chassis
The MKX introduces several additional refinements:
- Quieter push-type reset button, inspired by earlier SL-1200 models.
- Improved headshell retention for greater stability.
- Larger PHONO ground terminal for easier setup.
- Anti-glare stylus light for dark DJ booths.
- Polished silver tonearm and classic black finish.
- Coreless direct-drive motor with adjustable start-up torque and braking.
- Reverse playback and 78 rpm capability.
Can Technics Reclaim Its Crown?
For clubs, professional DJs and scratch specialists, this is one of the most interesting SL-1200 updates in years.
The heavier chassis and new isolation address a real concern in the booth, while ultra-pitch brings a feature battle DJs have long used on competing turntables.
The promise is strong. Long-term durability and real-world performance still need to be proven in use.
Could this be the turntable that puts Technics back at the forefront of professional DJing?
We think they’ve made a very strong statement.
